The Grand Finale

Immediately following the Arkansas Travs baseball game, be sure and catch the FIREWORKS over Dickey Stephens Park!

When: Approximately around 9PM.. it really depends on when the game is over. Just watch the sky and be ready!

1. The Essential Gear

  • A Sturdy Tripod: Absolute non-negotiable. You will be using long exposures (several seconds), and any camera shake will turn your photos into a blurry mess.

  • Remote Shutter Release (Optional but helpful): Pressing the camera shutter button can cause minor vibrations. A remote cable or using your camera’s 2-second self-timer solves this.

2. Camera Settings (Manual Mode)

Switch your camera to M (Manual) mode and dial in these base settings before the show starts:

  • ISO: 100 or 200. Keep it low to prevent digital noise and keep the dark night sky looking rich and black.

  • Aperture: f/8 to f/11. Fireworks are incredibly bright burning metal. A mid-range aperture prevents them from overexposing (blowing out the color) and ensures the trails stay sharp and well-defined.

  • Shutter Speed: 2 to 5 seconds. This is the sweet spot to capture the full launch, burst, and fall of a single firework sequence.

  • Focus: Manual Focus (MF). Autofocus will hunt and fail in the dark. Switch your lens to manual focus, aim at a distant city light or the first firework burst, lock it in, and don't touch it for the rest of the night.
